About Me
My name is Vincent Zheng and I’m a 29 year-old photographer currently active in the United States. My focus is on landscape, cityscape, and astrophotography. I also do wildlife and street photography occasionally.
My photographic journey started in the early 2000s, when, during a family trip, my parents bought a new Olympus camera, and entrusted me with a dated SONY point-and-shoot. That is the first time I ‘owned’ a camera, and first time taking pictures myself (that I remember, at least). And of course, I promptly lost the camera and all the photos I took before we even got back home.
Even though my first brush with photography ended unceremoniously with hours of scolding from my parents. The magic of capturing the world’s beauty with a snap of a finger did hook me. And my father, although at the time told me he’ll never entrust me with another camera ever, did come around years later and supported my enthusiasm in photography completely, and sponsored all my gears, from a $300 outdated Canon Rebel I used in High School (I waited in line for 2 hours on Black Friday 2011 to buy that thing for half price) to the GFX100S I’m currently using (bought on another Black Friday years later, this time online).
Over the years I’ve developed a habit of taking my cameras everywhere I go, I’ve climbed 2000ft to the top of the Nevada Falls in Yosemite National Park with 2 lenses and my GFX100S, and I plan to carry the same when I go down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. But I also take my camera with me even when I’m just going out for a stroll, especially in the Spring — You never know if you’ll encounter a delicate flower or a mesmerizing sunset.
My education is in Financial Engineering and Economics, I have a degree in Operations Research from Columbia University and a degree in Economics from University of Rochester. I currently work as a Quantitative Financial Analyst.
